2008 Spring Hikes

April 2 - Grotto Falls and Trillium Gap Trail

3.5 miles, moderate
Meet at the Sugarlands Visitor Center at 8:15 a.m. We’ll carpool to the Grotto Falls parking area.

Trail head: Grotto Falls parking area off Roaring Fork motor nature trail.


April 9 - Little Greenbrier loop @ Metcalf Bottoms

5.5 miles, moderate
Meet at Metcalf Bottoms.

Trail head: close to the bridge in Metcalf Bottoms. Bring your camera. We’re told this is a great place to see Pink Lady Slippers.


April 16 - Max Patch

Choose a 3 mile loop or a 7 mile trek, moderate
Meet at the Cracker Barrel in Newport. Shuttle service will be provided from there by Rocky Top Tours.

Trail head: Max Patch, Pisgah National Forest. This is part of the Appalachian Trail in North Carolina.

April 23 - Grapeyard Ridge Loop, “Injun Creek”

7 miles, moderate
Meet at the Greenbrier picnic area.

Trail head: Near the picnic area and bridge 3 miles into Greenbrier area of park.

“Injun Creek” gets its name from the remains of a self-propelled, steam-powered engine left in the area.

April 30 - Parsons Branch to Gregory’s Bald

Choose 9 or 15 mile hike, difficult/extreme
Meet at the Cades Cove bike/store area.

Trailhead: off Parsons Branch Road or closer to Cades Cove Loop Road.
This hike includes an optional overnight stay at Fontana Village Resort with a hike on the Appalachian Trail, May 1.
